Euchirus longimanus
Pen on vellum paper
Euchirus longimanus is a scarab beetle native to Indonesia. This species can grow quite large, up to 65 mm, and is typically orange in color. They have the characteristic and obviously very large "antlers" used by the males for battle. This was drawn from observation of a specimen from a museum.

Right hand
Colored Pencil
Drawn from direct observation of my right hand, this illustration helped to improve my observational skills. Using many layers of colored pencils, I emulated the many tones and textures present in the skin.
